His Highness the Dalai Lama is the political and spiritual leader of the Tibetan people. His is regarded
as the most prominent Buddhist leader and as the manifestation of Chenrezig, the boddhisatva of compassion. As a learned
man and man of peace His Holiness traveled around the world, not only to make the international society aware of the huge
sufferings of the Tibetan people, but also to speak about Buddhism and the power of compassion. Since 1959 His Holiness
stays in exile in Dharamsala in North India, after the Chinese troups beated down a national revolt against the Chinese suprmacy
in 1949-1950. In 1989 His Holiness got the Nobelprice for Peace because of his non violent struggle for the liberation
of Tibet. Sincethe beginning of his exile he met many of worlds'political and religious leaders among them president Clinton,
premier John Major, president Viclav Havel, His Holiness Pope Johannes-Paulus II and the Archbisshops of Cantelbury and Desmond
Tutu. His Holiness describes himself a s common monk. During his lections and lessons he disams his audience by simplicity,
humour, and great warmth. Everywhere he carries out the same message: how important compassion and forgiving are.
